Four Blank Walls: Experiments in Sound
Four Blank Walls: Experiments in Sound is a programme that teams three to five NUS student musicians with sound artist, Syafiq Halid, on an eight-week workshopping process to create a genre-defying collaborative sound performance.

Dance

Choreographing the Campus
We encourage NUS student dancers and choreographers to enliven the campus by creating site-specific and site-responsive dance performances in unconventional spaces on campus.Ā

Arts/Craft Workshops
third space also supports workshops that engage the NUS community in arts or craft activities.Ā

One of such initiatives are Art Immersion Workshops by RVRC Artelier, where students both within and outside RVRC come together to learn the basics of various art forms, from watercolour painting to mixed media works. These workshops are conducted both by RVRC Artelier students and invited guest artists.Ā

Arts Residencies

third spaceĀ provides artist residency opportunities for individuals and student collectives to develop their projects by providing artists-in-residence with the space and resources required to support their artistic practices.Ā

Interested in pitching your ideas for an arts residency toĀ third space? Write to us at cfathirdspace@nus.edu.sg!Ā

n:ow arts

n:ow arts, an independent theatre-based collective of NUS student artists, are third space's current artists-in-residence, for a two-year period from AY24/25 to AY25/26.Ā

n:ow arts members (from left to right): Tzee Yen, Kai Ling, Yi Wei, shen hao and Evangel

n:ow artsĀ has produced two site-specific movement pieces, (I)n Nature: Part 1 andĀ Part 2 and have two works-in-progress that will be staged in AY25/26 as part of their residency. Through the support of third space, the students of n:ow arts are able to take creative control and experiment with the types of performances they are interested in putting up, complete with guidance and mentorship from professional artists that they choose to work with during this process. Read more about their residency here.Ā

Arts installations

Interactive Visual InstallationsĀ

third space will support visual arts installations put up around the NUS campus that the NUS community can interact with. Such installations should be long-term projects that students can continually contribute to for a full semester. So far, CFA has worked with groups of students from NM3245 Managing Arts and Cultural Events to develop their large-scale visual arts installation ideas.

Eligibility criteria:

  • Engagement: Capture the attention of the NUS community, fostering a sense of engagement and interaction
  • Creativity and expression: Provide a platform for expression, allowing the NUS community to voice their thoughts, creativity and beliefs
  • Community building: Create a shared experience that promotes a sense of unity and connection with the campus community

Previous interactive visual installations included maNUScriptĀ andĀ Hey, Hustler..., both of which were conceptualised by students from NM3245 Managing Arts and Cultural Events, a course offered by NUS department of Communications and New Media.Ā

maNUScriptĀ was presented by third space and hosted by NUS Libraries at NUS Central Library. It presented itself as a space for conversation where participants can freely interact with the installation by responding to the prompt statement through pinning their written notes and/or coloured strings.Ā

If you are interested in being involved, please emailĀ cfathirdspace@nus.edu.sg.

Hey, Hustler...Ā was presented at NUS Central Forum. It was targeted towards graduation students in NUS who are facing the pressure of juggling final year academic commitments, internships and job hunting all at the same time – also known as ā€œhustlingā€. The installation hopes to serve an opportunity for self-introspection, to remind themselves they are enough without 'hustling'.

Living Arts Lab

The Living Arts Lab is envisioned as an inspiring and generative hang-out space for our students, just outside the CFA office (UTown SRC Level 3), that can also be used for casual arts activities, projects, and open dialogue with staff in the CFA office.Ā

The first iteration of the Living Arts Lab, designed by Hairi Cromo with puppet contributions from NUS students!Ā Hairi Cromo spruced up the space with warmth, modular seating and interactive elements by displaying the puppets made by students. The Living Arts Lab will remain an evolving space, where we aim to engage a different artist each time to reinvent the space.Ā
