About YIH
Originally built in 1977, YIH served for decades as a vibrant centre for student activity, expression, and engagement. In 2022, the building underwent a major redesign to meet the evolving needs of the NUS community — with a strong emphasis on sustainability, inclusivity, and flexibility.
The Net-Zero Goal
YIH was designed with sustainability in mind. Features include:
- Hybrid-cooling system
- Solar energy integration
- Smart building technology
- Rainwater harvesting system
- Greywater recycling
In recognition of its environmental innovation and
architectural stewardship, YIH received the Asia
Pacific Bronze prize in the 2023 Holcim Awards
for Sustainable Construction.
