On 10–11 August 2026, Temasek Hall (TH)(opens in new tab) welcomed friends from Universiti Malaya (UM)(opens in new tab)’s Tun Syed Zahiruddin Ninth Residential College (KK9)(opens in new tab) for a lively and meaningful exchange. The programme gave residents from both institutions opportunities to meet, learn from one another and experience daily campus life at the other campus.
Touring Temasek Hall
On the first day of the exchange, student leaders took centre stage. During the JCRC sharing session and hall tour, leaders from TH and KK9 exchanged experiences on leadership and residential life. The session encouraged open conversation and mutual learning, helping both groups appreciate the similarities and differences between their campus communities. The tour then brought discussions to life, giving KK9 guests a closer look at the spaces, activities and residents that shape the TH experience.
Visiting other parts of NUS Campus
On the second day, TH student leaders brought the guests to key landmarks within NUS campus. The group visited the Central Library(opens in new tab), NUS Co-op(opens in new tab), Yusof Ishak House (YIH)(opens in new tab) and University Town(opens in new tab) on the NUS Internal Shuttle Bus network(opens in new tab). The visit to YIH included a guided tour of the building’s sustainability design features by the Office of Student Affairs. The tours offered a window into how NUS students study, gather and spend time together.
A friendly game of sports
The afternoon continued with lunch, token exchange and a visit to TH’s CCA Fair, before wrapping up with friendly sports sessions. TH’s sports leaders introduced UM students to volleyball and frisbee through hands-on demonstrations and encouragement, creating a relaxed and lively space for peer teaching and learning.
Forming lasting friendships
The exchange concluded with a closing ceremony, dinner and networking. The programme fostered new connections and strengthened ties between the two hostel communities.
TH student leaders were honoured to have had the opportunity to host their peers from UM KK9, and spoke of the possibility of future exchanges.
"I had so many meaningful conversations with the students from UM KK9 over the two days, forming real connections along the way. It filled me with pride to introduce my hall, which has been such a significant part of my university life!" Said Wong Rui Xin (Year 3, Food Science and Technology).
"We are extremely excited for the opportunity to further this partnership, to extend the exchange to generations of Temasekians and Niners," echoed Foon Yi Teng (Year 5, Business Administration and Business Analytics).
