NUS takes a zero-tolerance stance on vaping.
Tougher Action Against Vaping
To align with the national stance and safeguard the health and well-being of our community, the University has adopted a zero-tolerance approach towards vaping.
Students caught vaping will be reported to the authorities. In addition to penalties by Health Sciences Authority (HSA) or Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB), student offenders will also face stricter disciplinary measures from 1 September 2025. Students should note that vaping off campus is also subject to NUS disciplinary measures.
i. Vaping Offences
First-time offenders will face disciplinary sanctions including eviction from their hostels and being deemed ineligible for any form of on-campus housing, student leadership roles and overseas NUS programmes. Repeat offenders will face severe disciplinary sanctions such as candidature suspension.
ii. Drug Offences (including Etomidate Vapes)
Students found to have committed drug offences (including but not restricted to the use or possession of etomidate vapes) will be brought before a Board of Discipline and face severe disciplinary sanctions including suspension or termination of candidature.

The University will enhance enforcement efforts and step up surveillance measures to ensure that the campus remains vape-free. Campus Emergency and Security (CES) officers will be increasing patrols and checks around campus.
Members of the NUS community can report any sightings of illegal vaping or sale and possession of e-vaporisers to CES via their 24-hour hotline 6874 1616 or to the Whistleblowing channels: 6516 6209 or whistleblow@nus.edu.sg.
Students staying on campus can also report to their Resident Fellow or Master.
The University will support students who wish to quit smoking or vaping.
