NUS Performing & Visual Arts Scholarship (Mid-Term)

The NUS Performing & Visual Arts Scholarship is awarded to highly-talented individuals who possess outstanding academic, performing and/or visual arts participation and representation records. NUS Performing & Visual Arts Scholarship holders are uniquely well-rounded individuals who are committed to contributing actively to the NUS performing and/or visual arts scene. 

The NUS Performing & Visual Arts Scholarship is offered for both incoming Freshmen (Freshmen) as well as current undergraduate students of NUS (Mid-Term).  

Application for the AY25/26 NUS Performing & Visual Arts Scholarship (Mid-Term) will be open from 9 June 2025 – 25 June 2025 6pm.

Applicants must: 

  • Be Singapore Citizens. 
  • Be admitted into and currently pursuing a full-time undergraduate degree programme at NUS. Limited scholarships may be available for Dentistry, Medicine and Law undergraduate applicants. 
  • Possess an exemplary record of artistic achievements and involvement in the NUS, local or global performing and/or visual arts scene. 
  • Possess a track leadership record and/or initiating programmes within the NUS or local performing and/or visual arts scene. 
  • Tuition fees (after MOE Tuition Grant subsidy) 
  • S$6,000 annual living allowance 
  • S$4,700 annual accommodation allowance if scholarship holder is staying on campus (not applicable if scholarship holder enjoys partial/ full on-campus accommodation fee waiver) 
  • Scholarship is bond-free, subjected to semester-based renewal process 

The NUS Performing & Visual Arts Scholarship is offered to read a full-time undergraduate programme at NUS, excluding Music. The scholarship is tenable for the normal candidature period (Freshmen), or remainder of the normal candidature period (Mid-Term) of the scholarship holder’s undergraduate programme.  

Recipients of the scholarship may not concurrently hold any other scholarship, fellowship, bursary, grant, award or allowance without prior approval from the University. 

The scholarship will be monitored and renewed every semester provided the scholarship holder: 

  • Displays good conduct 
  • Maintains a GPA of at least 3.5 (or Top 80% percentile of the cohort for Dentistry, Medicine or Law) 
  • Commits to active and meaningful contributions to the NUS performing and/or visual arts scene throughout their candidature by: 
  1. Displaying dedication to the betterment of self in their artform through training and development 
  2. Completing two out of the three following: 
    1. Leading and organising arts productions or activities on campus individually or as part of an NUS group, and/or 
    2. Initiating project(s) that benefit a specific community through the arts and/or that fosters an appreciation of their artform amongst NUS students or the wider community, and/or 
    3. Embarking on substantive artistic collaborations with artists and arts groups both within and/or outside of NUS. 

If the scholarship holder decides to withdraw from the University and/or terminate the scholarship prematurely, the University reserves the right to impose repayment of all scholarship monies disbursed to the scholarship holder.

  • Interested applicants should submit only one application. 
  • Applicants are required to submit the following: 
    • Complete the AY25/26 NUS PVAS [MT] Online Application Form by 25 June 2025 6pm   
    • Upload an updated personal statement or CV, which should include short descriptions of any relevant and recent artistic achievements, artistic collaborative work that the applicant has done or is currently doing, as well as a record of leadership positions that the applicant has held or is currently holding. 
    • Nominate two (2) persons to each submit a referee report to support the application. Referees can be the applicant’s artform/ academic tutor, staff advisor*, mentor or equivalent. All referees are to complete the AY25/26 NUS PVAS [MT] Online Referee Form by 25 June 2025 

*OSA Staff Advisors and other NUS Staff who may be appointed to be part of the Live Audition and Interview panel shall not be referee to any applicant. 

NUS Performing & Visual Arts Scholarship applicants will be assessed for scholarship suitability based on the strength of their application, portfolios and their performance in the NUS Performing & Visual Arts Scholarship Live Audition(s) and Interview(s), if shortlisted.  

Applications will undergo two rounds of shortlisting: 

  1. Shortlisted for Portfolio Submission: Applicants shortlisted for Portfolio Submission will be informed via e-mail and will be provided with detailed and instructions on the Portfolio preparation.  
  2. Shortlisted for Live Audition(s) and Interview(s): Applicants shortlisted for selection interview(s) will be informed via e-mail. Live Audition(s) and Interview(s) will be conducted from mid-July onwards, and applicants will be informed of their scholarship application outcomes by mid-August. To be considered for the scholarship, please ensure that you are available to attend the Live Audition(s) and Interview(s). Your scholarship application will be withdrawn if you are unable to attend any scheduled selection interview(s) without valid reasons.  

NUS reserves the right to not award any scholarship if there are no candidates of sufficient merit. The decision of the selection committee is final. Enquiries or disputes surrounding its decisions will not be entertained.
