Friendship Concert by NUS Wind Symphony x Kasetsart University Winds

Overview

NUS Wind Symphony welcomes Kasetsart University Winds from Thailand for an evening of musical exchange and collaboration, bringing together young musicians from Singapore and Thailand.

The concert celebrates the wind band traditions and musical voices of both countries, featuring works by Singaporean and Thai composers alongside international wind repertoire. NUS Wind Symphony will present works including Benjamin Yeo’s Redhill, while Kasetsart Winds will showcase Thai compositions including Singapore premiere of Tarin Supprakorn’s Soi Son Tad Variations, Jinnawat Mansap’s ASEAN Rhapsody, the wind band arrangment of Yellow River Concert and more.

The evening culminates with more than 130 musicians from both universities sharing the stage as one combined wind orchestra, performing Hands Across the Sea by John Philip Sousa and Don Gillis’ playful Variations on a Kitchen Sink.

More than a concert, this collaboration continues NUS’ spirit of learning beyond the campus stage, creating opportunities for students to exchange musical ideas, discover one another’s cultures, and build friendships through making music together.

About Arts For All

In 2024, NUS launched Arts For All, a framework which aims to enhance the student life experience at NUS, as well as support and encourage greater participation in the arts, which is an integral component of the University’s push for interdisciplinary teaching and learning.

As part of the framework, NUS students can participate in courses through four pioneering credit-bearing arts groups: NUS Symphony Orchestra, NUS Wind Symphony, NUS Chinese Orchestra and NUS Chinese Dance. Administered by the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music (YST) in partnership with the Office of Student Affairs Centre for the Arts (OSA CFA), these courses integrate conservatory-level arts training with students’ broader interdisciplinary academic pursuits, with credits that can count towards a Minor or Second Major in Performing Arts.

Advancing our Collaborative Efforts

This concert marks our second collaboration with KU in 2026.

In January 2026, as part of Arts for All, credit-bearing arts groups NUS Chinese Orchestra and NUS Chinese Dance travelled to Kasetsart University for an arts and cultural exchange. The groups joined Kasetsart Winds for a joint performance of an abridged Butterfly Lovers Concerto, bringing together Chinese orchestra, Western wind instruments and Chinese dance.
