“Thanks to V-Day, you can now buy chocolates and flowers on discount.”

The fourteen day of February has been celebrated as a day of romance – with sales of roses, balloons, macarons (and anything to declare your love for your significant other with). This year, Valentine’s Day (or V-day for short) fell on the third day of Chinese New Year: did you spend it with your significant other (SO), or with your family?

I surveyed both couples and singles how they had spent their V-day. Here is a nifty list of 14 ways to spend a belated (and probably discounted) V-Day this weekend; or perhaps, consider bookmarking this for future reference, it may just come in handy.

1. Dining at romantic restaurants

Food is the way to a person’s heart: nothing beats sitting in a fancy restaurant with a glass of wine, and a plate of delicacy to fill your belly. This could be a popular choice among couples, where most of them had made their reservations way in advance, before putting on a suave outfit or a dainty dress.

2. Art jamming

Art jamming studios have become a new haunt for couples who would want to try their hand at creating their own masterpiece. Get your creative juices flowing – show off your top-notch painting skills on your date! And I say, “Yay for free food, beverage and great music!”

3. Spending the day with your SO’s family

It is still Chinese New Year after all and it would not hurt to receive more angbaos! This year’s V-Day has got to be a perfect opportunity to bring your SO home to meet THE parents – a huge milestone in your relationship. *Gulp*. You may just polish off the last of the bak kwa when you’re there.

 4. Museum-hopping is the new café-hopping

A museum date can be a perfect choice for couples. There are ample conversation-starter topics: be it about the artwork, artist or about the many interactive spaces in the museum. Plus, museums are good for the gram!

5. Flyaway at Marina Barrage

Kite flying with clear blue skies. Picturesque. Make a pitstop at the green roof of Marina Barrage and spend the evening catching a full view of a beautiful pink hued sunset together.

6. Zoo-topia is your utopia

SingapoRediscover vouchers – checked. Animal lovers – checked. The Singapore Zoo has become a popular choice those who delights at the sight of small and endearing animals. Want something more majestic? The white tiger’s enclosure could just be your next destination.

7. Movie Date

Another classic – movie dates can be something special and a good way to know your partner better. Delving into the deep analyses after the movie – that sounds like promising already.

8. Bingeing Netflix

Like movie dates, but minus the traveling, queueing and $13 for a ticket.

9. Cooking a meal for each other

Aspiring MasterChef can hone your culinary skills. YouTube and TikTok videos on “Simple Recipes you can recreate” are aplenty. Besides, your fail-safe plan is GrabFood.

10. Studying together

Yes, midterms season is looming. You could be cramming the books together. Being buried in books may not seem like such an insufferable thing when you are with your partner.

11. Exploring theme parks

Thrill seekers rejoice. Get your adrenaline pumping and at local theme parks such as Universal studios. Plus, it’s a great way to spend your SingapoRediscover vouchers.

12. Galentines (or Brolentines…)

Celebrate friendship and spend the day with your close friends – be it at a bar, at a friend’s house, or even a nice café.

13. 5ecrets to Long-Lasting Love

Love is a universal language: do you know your love language? Pop by the NUSSU student lounge for an engaging workshop to understand more about your partner, the ways they may show you affection and your own love language! Find out more.

14.  Dining Under the SHtars

V-Day can be a day for friends not lovers. Couples and friends from Sheares hall gathered in pairs to enjoy a candle-lit dinner in the comfort of their hall. The communal hall was redecorated with an uncanny likeliness to a five-star restaurant. Romances that budded from hall life... of course must celebrate in hall!
