Student Wellness

Mental Health Literacy
The Mental Health Literacy badge is awarded to students who have completed the Mental Health Literacy Workshop and have acquired a basic understanding of the role of peer supporter. These students are equipped with the knowledge of common mental health conditions, are able to recognise signs of distress and lend support to peers and are working toward destigmatising mental health issues. Students are also equipped with peer supporting skills such as active listening and paraphrasing skills.

Suicide Awareness & Prevention
A student who has completed this workshop will acquire basic knowledge of the signs and symptoms of students with suicidal risks. The student is also equipped with skills in making contact, connecting and supporting those with suicidal ideation and behaviours. The student is also able to refer at-risk students to appropriate help and resources within and out of NUS.

Peer Student Supporter
A Peer Student Supporter (PSS) is a NUS student who has undergone training to be equipped with skills to befriend and support peers. A PSS offers a listening ear to emotionally distressed students and directs them to appropriate mental health resources within NUS. During the period of service, they receive regular check-in with a staff advisor and attend regular training. A PSS also organises outreach and wellness events to promote mental wellness and mental health advocacy to the wider NUS student community.
