Scholarship (Mid-Term)

Application Period for AY24/25: 1 July (9:00am) to 22 July 2024 (6:00pm)

The NUS Community Impact Scholarship is awarded to NUS undergraduates who exhibit leadership qualities in the conceptualising, planning and execution of projects in the areas of Community Service, and/or Environmental Sustainability.

  • Applicants should have at least one project in the area of Community Service and/or Environmental Sustainability that is self-led and/or led together with a group of partners. 
  • Applicants must be current students at NUS.  
  • Applicants must be Singapore citizens. 
  • Applicants must not have any disciplinary records with the NUS Board of Discipline.  
  • Applicants should have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.2 and maintain it throughout their scholarship.   
  • Applicants should not be graduating in the upcoming semester.  
  • Applicants should not be going on exchange programmes or overseas/local internship in the upcoming semester.   
  • Only completed and endorsed applications will be accepted. Supporting documents, where required, must be provided.  
  • Multiple submissions are not allowed.  
  • Late or incomplete submissions will not be considered.  
  • All information provided must be true and accurate. 
  • Tuition fees (after MOE Tuition Grant subsidy) 
  • S$6,000 annual living allowance  
  • S$4,375 annual accommodation allowance (for scholars staying on campus, the allowance will be reviewed and revised periodically in tandem with any revision to the on-campus room rates). 
  • Funding for related courses and conferences to be supported through OSA budget. This will be subject to application and approval by OSA. 
  • Scholarship is bond-free throughout the remaining term of candidature, subjected to semester-based renewal process. 

1. Recipients of the scholarship must be on MOE Tuition Grant. 
 
2. Recipients of the scholarship are required to demonstrate the following: 

a. Ongoing efforts in contributing to the NUS community and beyond while in the scholarship programme. 
 
b. Active involvement of the community for their project in at least one key area: Community Service, and/or Environmental Sustainability.  
 
3. Recipients of the scholarship may not concurrently hold any other scholarship, fellowship, bursary, grant, award or allowance without prior approval from the University. 
 
4. If the student decides to withdraw from the University and/or terminate the scholarship prematurely, the University reserves the right to impose the repayment of all scholarship monies disbursed to the scholar. 
 
5. The scholarship will be monitored and renewed every semester/year (within the scholarship term) provided the student commits to their workplan, continues to meet the criteria of the scholarship and maintains a Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 3.2 or equivalent and good conduct.

Shortlisted candidates will be contacted by 8 August 2024. 

In-Person Interviews and Recommendation 

12 August to 13 August 2024  

Scholarship Offers 

14 August 2024 onwards 

 

  1. Applicants will be assessed on their suitability for the scholarship, based on the strength of their applications and/or their performance in the scholarship selection interview(s), if shortlisted.
  2. Applicants shortlisted for the selection interview(s) will be informed via e-mail and will be required to provide a submission furnishing their co-curricular activity and other achievements, and a personal statement, before the interview(s).
  3. NUS reserves the right not to award any scholarship if there are no candidates of sufficient merit. The decision of the selection committee is final. Enquiries or disputes surrounding its decisions will not be entertained.

Using ONE key ongoing project in the area of Community Service and/or Environmental Sustainability, explain clearly the process involved in the planning, execution, measurement of outcomes, and future plans, if any.   

If you have a referee, it is highly encouraged for them to speak about your involvement in this project.   

(Max 500 words. Graphs or pictures can be included but should be explained. Explanation is part of the wordcount.)  

This writeup will be sent automatically to your referee. Do not send the referee your writeup.

Section 3: Community and/or Environmental Sustainability Contributions and Experience   

You will need to list your present and/or past experiences in contributing to community service and/or environmental sustainability projects.  Please prepare to upload the latest documentary proof from community partners/organisations in PDF format.  

Evidence of recognition refers to beneficiaries and/or community partner(s) that you are / have worked with have acknowledged your contribution and efforts. This acknowledgement can come in the form of newspaper articles / screenshots of webpage featured / magazine, certificates, etc. 

Section 4: Referee Report (Compulsory) 

You must indicate the name and email of a referee to submit a referee report to support your application. Referees can be your lecturer, tutor, staff advisor, community partner representatives or equivalent who can comment on your involvement in your key ongoing project. 

Do note that the opening and closing timeline for applications AND referee reports are the same. Please approach your referee early such that they can meet the submission deadline.
