Student Arts Groups

Performing arts groups have been an integral part of university life since the 1940s. Encompassing a variety of art forms, many of the NUS Arts Groups that exist today were the first of their kind in Singapore.

Captained by generations of capable student leaders, and under the tutelage of distinguished arts practitioners at the forefront of their fields, NUS Arts Groups reflect the diverse array of talent present in the student body.

NUS Arts Groups are resourced and supported by Centre for the Arts, Office of Student Affairs (CFA).

The groups listed below, sorted by art form, are overseen by CFA.

Music Groups

NUS Amplified
NUS Amplified's musicians perform a wide array of genres that include but aren't limited to: Top 40s, J-Pop, Funk, Indie, and even Metal.

NUS Angklung Ensemble
Established in 2007, NUS Angklung Ensemble (NUSAE) is Singapore’s first Angklung club at collegiate level.

NUS Chinese Orchestra
NUS Chinese Orchestra is an active amateur orchestra in the local Chinese music scene.

NUS Dikir Barat
NUS Dikir Barat is the premier Malay performing arts group at the NUS, dedicated to preserving and innovating the traditional art form of Dikir Barat.

NUS Electronic Music Lab
NUS Electronic Music Lab members compose and promote original electronic music, spanning a diverse range of genres.

NUS Fingerstyle Guitar
A community for guitarists on campus to interact, learn and showcase their talents.

NUS Guitar Ensemble
As the region's first Niibori guitar ensemble, the NUS Guitar Ensemble is a warm and welcoming community of students who are bound by their passion for playing the guitar and making music together.

NUS Harmonica
NUS Harmonica is a place for harmonica enthusiasts and music lovers to explore an extensive repertoire ranging from classical symphonic works to contemporary pop music.

NUS Indian Instrumental Ensemble
Through the practice and performance of music that has its roots deep within Indian culture, the NUS Indian Instrumental Ensemble provides an open and inclusive environment to stage cultural dialogues with a diverse range of genres across the world.

NUS Jazz Band
A dynamic and supportive space that has championed jazz music in Singapore since 1994.

NUS Piano Ensemble
The NUS Piano Ensemble focuses on piano ensemble repertoire, exploring a range of obscure works for the piano and with other instruments in chamber settings.

NUS Resonance
NUS' pioneer and premier collegiate a cappella group.

NUS Symphony Orchestra
NUSSO comprises musicians from all faculties, united in their love for music.

NUS Voices
NUS Voices is a family of talented instrumentalists and vocalists who share a common passion for performing Mandopop.

NUS Wind Symphony
The NUS Wind Symphony has established itself as one of the premier wind orchestras in Singapore.

The NUSChoir
The NUSChoir is a young adult choir who share a common passion for singing and choral music.

BreakiNUS
BreakiNUS represents the B-boy or Breaking, also called Breakdancing, scene in NUS.

NUS Ballroom
NUS Ballroom welcomes all to experience the captivating world of Standard Ballroom dancing.

NUS Chinese Dance
NUS Chinese Dance aims to foster expertise and experience not just in Chinese dance, but an appreciation for Chinese culture and to bring this unique art form to the masses.

NUS d'Hoppers
NUS d'Hoppers is a hip hop dance club striving to spread hip hop dance skills and culture on campus.

NUS Dance Blast!
NUS Dance Blast! is the largest street dance group in NUS, based in street styles and open choreography.

NUS Dance Ensemble
NUS Dance Ensemble is a South-East Asian Contemporary dance group who has earned wide recognition and prides itself in showcasing the importance of our roots and culture, as well as highlighting societal issues through championing original works.

NUS Dance Synergy
NUS Dance Synergy is a contemporary dance group that aims to achieve recognition for challenging movement and minds with a process-driven dance pedagogy and for winning hearts as a socially conscious arts group.

NUS Funkstyles
NUS Funkstyles stand by the motto “KEEP THE FUNK ALIVE” where students explore 2 main genres: locking and popping.

NUS Ilsa Tari
Ilsa Tari experiments with both traditional and contemporary Malay Dance.

NUS Indian Dance
NUS Indian Dance pursues excellence in the Indian classical dance form Bharatanatyam, through rigorous and demanding training sessions aimed at maintaining high standards of performance.

NUS Jazzttitude
Jazzttitude specialises in Street Jazz which fuses the technicalities and elegance of Jazz dance with the groove of Street dance.

NUS Lion Dance
Founded in 1985, the group is the oldest university-level lion dance troupe in Singapore. The group practices the Hok San (Sar Ping) style, which represents a tame yet playful style of southern lion dance.

Viva LatiNUS
Viva LatiNUS is a Latin dance team from the National University of Singapore, focusing on the five Latin styles - Cha Cha, Rumba, Samba, Jive, and Paso Doble.

NUS Arts Production Crew
NUS Arts Production Crew is CFA’s go-to student production group, formed with the belief that the cornerstone of every professional stage production is an excellent behind-the-scenes team, from stage management to sound and lighting design.

nuSTUDIOS Film Productions
Welcoming anyone with an interest in film, regardless of filmmaking experience, nuSTUDIOS aims to develop a community of competent and passionate student filmmakers who enjoy challenging their creative limits.
