With heart-pounding live music, jaw-dropping dance moves, and a vibe that electrifies your senses, NUS student life shines brightest at the annual outdoor music and dance festival - SUPERNOVA! Teaming up with The Rising Star, 2024's edition promises to be a pulsating fusion of talent and energy!
Be part of our featured artists line-up at SUPERNOVA: Rising Star! This year will feature an Open Category with performance slots beginning from 6.15 p.m. and The Rising Star Category from 7.35 p.m.
All participants have to select either category at the point of entry. The key differences are:

Interested student groups must submit an online application to be considered:
- Ensemble a group comprising of NUS full-time current students.
- Video record a maximum length of 1-minute performance piece.
- Upload your video onto YouTube and set your “visibility” to “private”.
- Prepare submission form fields

Please note that each group is allowed to participate in one category, multiple entries will not be accepted.
The Rising Star category participants stand a chance to win cash prizes! The cash prizes awarded will be as follows:

To help selected participants prepare for the performance on 16 Aug 2024, we will be conducting in-person artist workshop sessions. The Rising Star category participants will be given priority over Open category participants to opt-in for such mentorship by local artists and celebrities on showmanship and genre-specific techniques. Mentorship sessions are optional and will be conducted from 1 July 2024 onwards.
Supernova: Rising Star 2024 (the “Programme”) is organised by the National University of Singapore (NUS) Office of Student Affairs (OSA) and University Campus Infrastructure (UCI) in collaboration with NUS Students' Union (NUSSU). By registering for your participation, you (herein as the “Participant”, you acknowledge and accept all terms and conditions set out herein (“Terms and Conditions”).
A) Submission of video audition:
- Submission of video entries begin from 13 Mar and end on 13 May 2024, 2359hrs, Singapore Time, and stand a chance to be featured in Supernova: Rising Star 2024.
- No profanities or insensitive subject matters will be permitted.
- Participants who submit pieces longer than the time limit will not be considered.
- Only un-edited video will be accepted for the audition; parts of video clips trimmed and combined are not acceptable.
- Judges’ comments will not be disclosed. Judges’ decisions are final and cannot be appealed.
- Participants will be based on the video recording submitted. Should it be an old video, participants are to highlight the reasons for variations which is subject to the organisers' discretion to proceed with the auditions. A full performer list is required to be submitted for the selected participants to undergo live auditions where no changes are allowed.
- Participants will be notified via email about the shortlist results from 21 - 24 May 2024. Shortlisted entries will be published on OSA website on 24 May 2024.
- Participant/s should retain original video recorded in either full HD or 4K and to be submitted to the Programme upon request as the organisers may contact selected participants for the original videos to be feature in Supernova: Rising Star publicity.
B) Live auditions:
- Shortlisted entries will participate in a live audition on 21 June 2024, at the NUS Kent Ridge campus. We will need you to set aside 19 and 20 Jun for rehearsals and sound checks. Each rehearsal slot will be 30mins long and the exact time slots will be released closer to date.
- Participants will be required to prepare 1 performance item.
C) Performance:
- All shortlisted participating groups must attend full-dress rehearsals in August 2024. We will need you to set aside 14 and 15 Aug . The exact time slots will be released closer to date.
- The organisers reserve the rights to determine the programme order.
- All finalists must be prepared to extend their repertoire to fit the programme order.
D) General terms and conditions:
- Personal Data
- The Organiser may collect, use and/or disclose each Participant’s personal information to their officers, employees, appointed service providers, affiliated organisations and event partners, as may be required for the administration of the Programme and all matters arising thereunder.
- Each Participant further agrees that the Organiser may use and disclose the Participant’s personal data contained in his/her entry (including but not limited to his/her name, photograph or image, etc.) for the purposes of this Programme and for promotional, marketing and publicity purposes by the Organisers. Where an entry contains the personal data of individuals other than the Participant, the Participant confirms and warrants that he/she has obtained each individual’s consent for such use and disclosure of that individual’s personal data for the aforementioned purposes.

Q1: Can I audition as a solo singer? We encourage you to form a band with friends and apply together to showcase your talents. |
Q2: Can I participate in more than one group? Each participant is limited to only one group application regardless of genre and category. |
Q3. For Band and Dance applications, are we limited to only English songs? All languages are welcome however profanities and insensitive materials are not permitted, and we are looking for songs that fit the vibrancy of Supernova. |
Q4: We are interested in applying as a dance group. How many dancers should there be in my group and what genres of dance are acceptable? We are looking for a group size of 10 to 15 dancers and all genres of dance are welcome. We are looking for energetic dance performances that fit the vibrancy of Supernova. |
Q5. Half of my band/dance group is graduating this semester AY23/24. Can we still perform? This platform is geared towards giving current students performing opportunities as there are limited slots available in one evening. There will be other opportunities for alumni bands to perform at NUS. All members of the band/dance group must be current students at of 16 August 2024. Graduands from Class of 2024 attending the upcoming Commencement ceremonies in July 2024 are considered alumni, and are not eligible to participate. |
Q6. In the event we make it to the actual performance, do we have to perform the same song/dance item we had previously sent in for the 1-min video audition? You have the option to perform another song/dance item that best showcases your talent. |
Q7. How many groups will be shortlisted for the performance? This is dependent on the standard of applicants for both the band and dance segments. |
Q8. What is the organising committee looking for in a performance? Is there a scoring rubric on how vetting is administered? The judging criteria will be released to all shortlisted groups who are invited for the live auditions on 21 Jun. The auditions with the judging panel is planned to be live streamed on YouTube. The criteria will also be available publicly after the finalists are announced. |
